98 xj-8 !!!
I have always admired these cars and finally had a chance to pick one up.
It's a 1998 with about 140k miles.
I enjoy the ride, the comfort, power and handling of this beauty.
That being said I find myself with an issue and am searching for relative posts to solve my issue.
All has been well up until I decided to make the engine compartment shine during the last bath this cat got.
I drove about 25 miles the next morning and then noticed "restricted performance" and check engine light come on.
Was on the highway cruising about 70 which was fine but bogged under acceleration.
Then when I got off the highway in town traffic it got much worse.
Running as rough as a dirt back road it ran but not well. Borrowed a reader at autozone and read the codes. "#3 misfire" plus a couple others but my bad didn't write them down.
I tried an approach to the interstate and that didn't work well at all. Spitting and sputtering I was able to make it to the next exit and pulled off. As long as I didn't try to accelerate I could manage to move. I made it to my driveway but here sits this pretty kitty with a broken leg
I check for loose vacuum hoses and such but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I open the air filter and cleaned that. Cleaned the boot that hooks to the air cleaner and tightened that back down. After 24 hours I just started it and it seemed to run smooth - until I got to 3k rpms and it started missing. So hoping that time would maybe "dry" something out and make everything better became a disappointment.
So anyway, I am thankful for a site as this that has some good reads and much information, I find myself hoping I can avoid dropping way too much money into this car, and with my mechanical background hope to be able to get this cat purring again. I long for the days of distributor caps and exposed engines.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum pdubay,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.
It sounds like you may have gone overboard with the engine compartment cleaning, especially if you washed it down. There's a lot of water averse electronics in there.
Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
