Almost there...
Hi! Next week I am buying a 2008 XJ8L with the Alpine sound system and chrome Sabres. I am very excited about it as it has been a dream car since I was 8 years old. I have been working on cars for about 4 years now (02 Lincoln LS V8 owner) and am capable of doing just about every repair short of a complete drivetrain rebuild.
That said, I'm also a little nervous about it and am hoping for some advice as to specific things I should be checking on it. I know the air shocks, compressor, and control arm bushings tend to be weak points and that the 19" and 20" wheels tend to bend relatively easily. I have also looked over the checklist posted for the x350 in general so I have a basic idea of what I'm getting into. However, I know that Fords luxury division made significant quality and reliability improvements for 06+ so I'm curious if all of the posted issues are still relevant to the 08.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to future contributions to this forum!

ANY used car, certainly one that's 9 years old, will have some problems, otherwise the Previous Owner(s) wouldn't have got rid of it. On the other hand, it's ONLY 9 years old!
Many of the cars dealt with in here are Decades old and still going strong, as long as Owners take proper cars of them, but that goes for a car of any age.
If you ask specific questions in the Xj8 section you'll get specific answers. That's why these forums are here.
