I have an older XJ^, 1986 to be exact. I drive it very little as I have not been able to have the AC repaired. It apparently needs the refrigerant fluid (not Freon) Is there a replacement for the fluid so that I don't have to spend a fortune replacing the system? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum awrrenb,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Do you only need to switch refrigerant from Freon to R134 of is there something more wrong with the system? If members with the same model in the XJ40 forum can't help, members in XJS forum will have experience with this refrigerant change.

Follow this link XJ40 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

I'm assuming you mean Xj6 and not XJ^.

About your AC, IF, I repeat IF you are a DIYer and able to do your own charging, there is a product only available online that we've used in my own Freon OEM car, called HC-12a, which is Propane specifically formulated for automobile AC units.

It's said to be basically the same refrigerant that's used in RV refrigerators and you know how many of those are out in the real world on every road known to man.

I have no idea where to find it or the cost as we got ours several years ago. Google knows everything though, so ask them.

Welcome to the forum from ElinorB.
