Hello from oliver b.c. Canada
i have just bought a 1934 ford cabriolet with a jag rear end, which needs a pinion seal. I'm trying to find out what year and model this unit would be,so i can get the right parts. It has a parking brake on the driveline just back of the driveshaft. There was only two years of this model. Does anyone know of this rear end?
Thanks bill carter

That's a very strange parking brake arrangement. The std Jag IRS had a similar park brake caliper on each disc. The back of the diff doesn't look like a Jaguar one.
Never seen one with a plate like that on it. I might be wrong. The rest of the set up looks like a Jaguar. wishbones brakes etc. I am fairly sure all the pinion seals were the same.

have a look at those Dave. All cars had the Jag IRS and 3 different seals.
Sorry I cant help more. You need a jag man to poke his head under the car and confirm its a jag diff. Then you need to work out which diff. Failing that phone your local jag specialist. He might tell you that all diff seals supersede to one part number. I know early cars had rope seals.
Later cars had rubber seals. maybe the early e type part number is a rope seal and a rubber one could replace it.
Hope that helps you a bit.

Thanks, i found some numbers stamped on dif casing, i'll see were that takes me. It looks like the filler plug is in line with the bottom of the seal.hopefully i wont run dry of oil. Thanks again for your input, it all helps.
I think that's the best place to start tracking the IRS donor model which could be anywhere from 1961 onwards.
Good luck and enjoy the forums.
