New to this forum and just purchased my first Jaguar 99-XJR ..I'm hoping I made a good purchase..reading peoples forums I get mixed feelings whether I bought one of my dream cars or a money pit...leaning towards a good purchase so far..love the car...has 157,000 and running strong..have a ton of questions since this is my first Jag and it has some issues. My first issue and I hope someone can help me out with this...
...my cigarette lighter wasn't working and a few lights on the climate control area weren't lit up..so I checked after reading forums and replaced the fuse...everything worked again...but now I have a double chirping chime every ten seconds from the dashboard area...I also have three little red lights on the climate control..one on left, right and in middle...the one on left comes on once in a while when driving and flashes fast..and sometimes slow then stops...then one day I was driving and the right light came on flashing fast and then made a long 30 second fast chime as if it was reseting and then stopped and the other chirping noise got quitier and slowed down to 20 sec intervals...there is also an organge light that stays on permantly in the center console when the car is one...all of this happened after I replaced the fuse...I am going crazy listening to this driving and also have tried to find the answer in the handbook and in the forum...and nothing...does anyone have any idea why it's doing this or what all the lights mean?...thanks
I went through the same experiance when I first got my XKR. Sounds like you may have an after market K40 radar detector. Left light indicates radar from the front of car. Right light is radar from the rear. There should be a three position switch mounted somewhere: orange light is for city driving, green is for highway driving, and third position is off - no light. These things are high end and quite expensive. Some also are equiped with radar jammers. First time out with the XKR I had no clue this was in my car. It starts chirping and I start wondering what is going wrong. Within 30-45 seconds I can see a state trooper in my rear view mirror about a half mile back. This was on a county road where you see more tractors than cars and never a cop. Needless to say this thing saved my butt as I was ready to see what the car would do. Went home called the salesman and he informed me what I had in the car. Hope this helps. Its my best guess as to what you may have.
Thank you so much filoli1993 for the information...after examining everything..it was excatly what you said about the aftermarket k40 radar detector...I found the three postion switch located underneath drivers side dash. very excited to try it out on the highway now that I know what it is.
...thanks again.
