Default Can a mechanical issue cause a spin out?

My son lost control of the car (2004 xtype 3.0 AWD) while getting on to an on ramp. The car spun out and hit the cement guard rail. The roads were slippery, he says he was going slow about 15mph and the car just went into a spin.
To give him the benefit of our doubt, we have been having issues with the car, DSC fault, the cv shaft was
replaced during the summer, the car would randomly display check engine lights. I had an auto parts store read the codes and the mass air flow and throttle body Was having issues.
After the spin out the car would not start, not a significant amount of damage, and most importantly he's fine.
Your thoughts? Driving to fast or mechanical failure??

Welcome to the forum Penny,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Good to hear your son is OK. I'd just put the incident down to experience and get the repairs done.

Follow this link X-Type ( X400 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link US Midwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

I am with Graham, NONE of us were there, and sometimes "stuff": just happens.

My 2 went through that with their Jaguars in the early days, THEY fixed THEIR cars and out of THEIR pockets, whilst I stood by with a big stick, so the benefit of the doubt was given.

Hello, Penny,
I've been hearing about the Filthy weather in the eastern part of the country, and having grown up in Montana, I know how quickly a road can turn on you completely without warning. All it takes is a slick surface and an unexpected gust of wind and you're out of control. It happens to even very good experienced drivers. I'm sorry your car is smashed.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

First: welcome to the forum!

Second: Ummm... If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck... don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled your son is OK! And you don't mention your son's age, so I am making a big assumption that he's under 25. But unless there was black ice in freezing weather, he was driving too fast.

None of the mechanical and electrical issues you've mentioned would cause a car to 'spin out'.

Welcome to the forum.
Most of us have had one of those incidents, usually more to it than just the car.
