Greetings,
Just purchased a 95 XJ6 Vanden Plas with 78k. It was siting for a year and after replacing fluids we are having fuel pump issues. This is the third one, it works fine for about two days and then it starts puttering and making the whining noises as if its straining.
Thanks in advance.

Default Welcome!

I'm pretty new here too. I try not to view these forums as a Support Group but as a resource. haha. In the meantime I enjoy my car although I'm always doing diagnostics in the back of my brain while I"m driving....

Keep reading and posting, you'll get it figured out.

Did you change the fuel filter? Might be no harm after sitting for a while. Sounds like it could be clogged nd so, causing fuel starvation and putting strain on the pump.

And welcome!

Thanks Graham,
Yes this is the third pump and its at my mechanics shop and driving us both crazy. He's cleaned the tank, replaced the filter and two different brands pump. The screen doesn't show any particles that could be clogging up the pump but after he replaces the warranted pump it runs great for about a day and then you can hear the pump straining and the sputtering starts on acceleration.

Yes Sir , we did replace the filter. I've spent about $800 in parts and labor. It starts and runs great after each time ived replaces the pump, then the next day it sputters and you can hear the pump straining in the back out of the car.
