First Jaguar
Hi all.
I just bought my first Jaguar at a yard sale! It was across the street from my house, so I knew the owner. It was originally his mother's car, then his father's after she passed away, then two years ago he bought it from his Dad's estate for $30,000. I bought it last month for $11,000.
It's a 2004 XJ8 Vanden Plas with 40,000 miles on it. The only thing I've found to not work is the rear sunshade. I can hear the motor trying to move it but it doesn't come up at all.
I got the "Air Suspension Fault" code a week after I bought it. Found the compressor piston ring repair kit from Bagpipingandy and replaced it last Saturday (9/27). Good bye error code. Haven't seen it since.
Love the car and ride. Had a fun time figuring out a few of the features because it didn't come with an owner's manual, but I've been able to find many things online. Glad to see this forum and all the great information on it. I'll likely spend many hours here in the future.

I've heard of buying a lot of things at a yard sale but a Jaguar isn't one of them.
It's good you know the history of the car, how it was treated and serviced. Someone in the Xj8 section will doubtless be able to help you with the sunshade.
