Welcoem to the forums !
Well, I think those earlier models are not as reliable as today's Jaguars that's why if I were you I would go for post 92 (XJ40) as a daily driver Jaguar .

Hey Winston, welcome to the forums.
Check out the relevant section for advice on this....maybe ask one of the techs or Ken @ vritish parts / Jose etc etc.
I'm sure they'll be glad to offer advice...very knowledgable guys on these models

All the best

Wecome to the forum. I would 2nd Cadilliac's answer. While some didn't like it when Ford took them over, it did pay great dividends in quality. I daily drive an 05 S Type and love it. Like it so much that I'm looking for a XJS.

The reliability of a ** 26 year old XJ6 ** is gonna depend much more on its present condition and the care it has received over the years than anything to do with the original design.

I drove a Ser III XJ6 for years and years as a daily driver and found it to be very reliable. That is, it never failed to get me where I wanted to go, near or far, and always brought me back home as well !

But, yes, as years and miles are added on, repairs and some extra care were needed.....just like any other car.

Anyhow, in a nutshell, these cars CAN be reliable. It just takes some effort to make 'em that way and keep 'em that way. In most cases buying an older used Jag means a slew of weekends and a chunk of money playing catch-up on all the repairs that previous owners have neglected. After that, smooth sailing with just a Saturday here-n-there for odd things that crop up.

Cheers
DD
