Default First Time Jaguar XJS Owner in Japan

Hi Everyone. My name is John, but everyone calls me Gus. I live in Japan and about to close the deal on a 1992 XJS, RHD Japan model, the brake rotors/calipers are toast, the anti-lock light stays on, and the roof needs paint. Other than that, car appears to be in real good condition.

This will be the first Jaguar of any type that I've owned. So, my knowledge of these "unique" machines is very limited. However, my mechanical abilities are well above average. I have been building hot rods and street machines for a few years, plus an Aviation Mechanic by trade for about 19 years. My current clunker is a 1975 Datsun 260z that has a stroked 347 Ford and EFI, about 380 hp pushing 2500 lbs curb weight. Also, my mid-life crisis thats currently in work is an 1-5/8" round tube drag chassis with a 240z body, 351W, 4R70W, Narrowed Strange 9" and 32 x 16.5 Mickey Thompsons. You can check them out if you like: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/771320/1975-datsun-260z/

Anyway, Thank You for all of the knowledge that is already posted here, espically that book by Kirby Palm. I look forward to learning from all of you.

Gus

Welcome to the forum Gus,

I hope the deal goes through smoothly.

It sounds like you've already found your way around here but if not, follow this link XJS - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJS section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the 'Other Areas' Region section by following this link Other Areas - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in the Far East.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Welcome aboard, Gus.

XJSs are great cars and very "interesting" to own and repair....and I mean that in both the best and worst possible ways!

It's common that they need some work but you're obviously up to the task and I can almost guarantee you'll find it's worth the effort. A sorted-out XJS is a real sweetheart to drive.

Cheers
DD
