Default Frickin Beautiful VDP….

So just bought a 99 XJ8 VDP for my wife with just a tick under 60k miles on her….(the car not the woman). No service records so I am ready to venture into the great unknown (sorry Capt. Kirk). Any good sources out there for some used tidbits: one center hubcap (16" wheels), a chrome cover on one of the inside grab handles & maybe the tensioner kit & thermostat housing….Appreciate all you dudes and the level of info here is uber rad….Thanks, Shad

Looks like eBay might be your best friend for those bits and pieces. Just did chains and tensioners, guides etc etc.. Try some of our sponsors for a quote on some of the more expensive items.

It's all doable,so welcome aboard and congrats on the VDP.

Welcome to the clan. Many happy miles!

Add to that, find a good tranny shop that's familiar with the ZF box...and have them go over the high pressure soleniods...there's a known issue with the oem original metalurgy (as well as the "A" clutch basket) that crops up at about 90-110K miles that will put you into limp home (the car, not you...) mode. O/H trannies run 2500-3000; repairs to the valve body and updated A basket as a preventive measure are a Lot Less (tm). (note: beemers and audi models with the 5HP24 have the same issue, so, it's not a Jag thing only...)

Eriksson Industries in CT are your source for the skinny on that particular box.

Ask me how I know. They are superlative rides, even so. Congrats!

Welcome to the forum slimshade73,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Follow Norri's link in post #4 to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

My 2nd Jag was an 03 VDP and they are quite something! I find great deals on eBay Co called AtlantaEuropean (items in Atlanta European Auto Parts store on eBay!) where they've had many great used parts and when I could not locate a used part at the time, Terry's Jaguar (Jaguar Parts, Jaguar Accessories All Jaguars) in MI (press 2 to talk to Buzz) has been consistently the best rice around on new parts that are in stock and ship fast.

I would like to suggest that you use this time to tell us more about you so we can get to know you as well. By chance, did you ever live in Indiana, even for a brief time?

You'll not find a more eager group of folks with more knowledge and drive to assist than here. Others may be able to match it, but not surpass. That's IMHO. Welcome!

Regards,
Ragman
