Default Greetings from South Australia

I am about to be the new owner of a 1972 Series 1 XJ6 Jaguar. My very first.

As a teenager, I almost bought one twice but the deal always fell through, now being much much older and hopefully wiser, I have finally committed to one.

The car has just been delivered to transport company today to have it transported from Western Australia to South Australia. Should be here in a week, that is of course if I'm not the biggest mug around and have been scammed out of my hard earned cash. I doubt it, but we will see in a week or 2.

The original owner has its colour listed as Sandlewood, but I cant find any other S1 XJ6's with this colour. It is an import from South Africa and I have been told it is all original, no restorations done.

Comparing with other Jags on the Internet, the closest I can find to this colour is either Sable or Ascot Fawn.

What do you think its colour would be called?

cheers
Roger

Wow, she looks to be in good nick, if that paint really is 50 years old it's in beautiful condition!! How many k's?

I bought a van mid-COVID from Tassie, I'm in Newcastle and had it trucked up... I bought it from a guy on Facebook marketplace and was a bit worried about the scam potential, but he'd taken it to two mechanics for pre-purchase inspections, done video calls with me, and I had copies of his drivers license and stuff too, so I was reasonably confident... but the 30-day wait while it was being transported felt like six months! Once the transport company has it they'll record the VIN and stuff, so if you want to be really sure you could ask for their paperwork and triple-check the numbers to make sure they're not transporting an unregistered daihatsu charade instead 🤣

I'm new to Jags so I can't help with the colour, but there's plenty of knowledge here and you'll have an answer soon enough. Jag do seem to change the names of colours a bit - my car is Carpathian Grey but I think the same car a year earlier was called Storm Grey - so this colour might have a couple of names, or the previous owner might have given you the wrong name. I did a really quick Google but probably only turned up stuff you've already found, e.g. https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.a...ference_jaguar and https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.a...ch_jaguar_1970. There's a colour called "Jaguar Ascot Fawn" on that site which might be close?

P.S. here's a photo of a similar car in a similar colour, with "Ascot Fawn" in the file name: http://davidsclassiccars.com/images/...ot-fawn-10.jpg

The guy in WA has definitely made the purchase a lot easier with video calls, where he went over and showed me every inch of the car.

It has done 66k ml and is in mint condition inside and out. Best one I have found. Cant wait to get here here in SA.

Welcome to the Forums.

I took the plunge in 1968, with a 1954 MK VII, traded on a Pug 404 where I worked at the time. NEVER looked back.

I will add you to the SA Roll Call in a few minutes.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Wabbit,

Sable is a lot darker brown so it's likely to be Ascot Fawn. The Paint Code tag will confirm once you have the vehicle. Condition looks great but the aftermarket radio aerial looks long enough to connect to the Space Station.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/ to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Wow that's great, congratulations! Sure looks like it's lived life in the garage and been cared for. Looking forward to seeing more 😎
