Default Greetings From Virginia

My Jag is a 2003 S type, with 142,000 miles. I've had it for almost ten years and its been the best car I've ever owned (I've had 24). I'm sort of a mechanic, which in addition to making any car operable, also keeps evil mechanics from sabotaging my cars. My problem is two fold: I dropped a washer into my #6 cylinder, and even after fishing the pulverized remains out with a magnet, developed a tap. Also, when checking on the origin of a miss on #3 and 5, I removed the left side valve cover. Now, I get oil on my sparkplugs, and misses which trigger the 1313 code. I know I'm going to have to remove and correctly reinstall the valve cover. But, can anyone tell me how to stop the valve from tapping?
