Default Hello

Thought I better introduce myself, I'm a new Jaguar owner since January 2009. Bought a '96 x300 3.2 cos I was too scared to chance a V8, it was a really nice car but I still really wanted the V8. Thanks to the advice I read on this forum I knew what to look out for and bought a 2000MY XJR which hopefully will turn out to be a good buy.
It's a fantastic car, everything I hoped for.
Stewart

Welcome ,
It rather looks a V8 that is X308s than X300

Stewart, it's now nine months since you got her did you have any initial things you had to deal with? If not you've gotten along pretty good so far. What scared you away from the V8?

It was listening to "experts" when I decided to get an XJ that put me off buying the V8, everybody I spoke to advised me to stick with the bombproof I6 engine, apparently the V8's were trouble just waiting to happen unless I went for 2000 or later. I was only prepared to spend a couple of thousand originally. The 3.2 was a good car, maybe just a bit gutless unless thrashed, and was very basic. Seven months with it confirmed I am smitten with the whole Jaguar experience. Discovering this forum and the advice on here taught me what to look out for ie nikasil, tensioners etc. So I was happy to sell one of my classic Triumph bikes along with the X300 and bought the 2000 X308 I have now.
Vin nos ends in F***** that I thought meant steel linered engine, I've since discovered it just means probably a nikasil engine that hasn't been subjected to high sulfer fuel, hopefully the best combination (fingers crossed). Also the tensioners were replaced with the latest steel ones, more peace of mind.
It has Brembo brakes which are probably overkill for me but then again it's better to have too much than not enough?
I've only covered 2000 (very enjoyable) miles so far, early days yet.
There seemed to be a delay, bit like turbo lag when I floored it and the super charger doing it's stuff. I found the part load breather pipe split which I've replaced (£28 at dealer) and that has transformed it - instant power the minute I touch the accelerator, so I've now added a camera detector (£50 Ebay), acceleration is so addictive! The only negative I have with the car is that I think it is too quiet for a performance car, I would like to hear a bit more of that V8.
Sorry for the long post
