Default Hello

Hello:

I am the owner of a 1996 XJ6 VP in Sage Green. The car has 120K miles and still looks brand new inside and out. The only problem with the car is the display for the clock stopped working and the cup holder broke.

Looking to sell my current car and purchase either a 2004-05 XJ or an 2001-03 XK8. The wife wants me to get the XJ sedan since we have two young boys, but I would love to a convertible. Trying to stay around $15K for a purchase price for the new car. Any input would be appreciated.

Also, I tried to download some files from this site and kept getting a messaging saying I did not have the proper privileges. What does that mean? How can I download these files? Does my account need to be activated?

Welcome KD. XJR would not be a bad idea, should keep the wife happy, and when you press the loud pedal.....gone.

I think the clock display is a Jaguar trait linked to its timeless design (seems to be a common issue).

Welcome, as I like X300 more than most of Jaguar family I would keep it .However in your case which means you are not as much fan as I am (regarding X300 case) I would go for X350 not two door coupe which ain't practical "literaly"

Hi Kdross,

Nice car that 96 VDP, in green you lucky dog! I have one too in white. I also have owned or own an XK8, X308, X350 and love them all. X300s like yours with the AJ16 is the best engine Jaguar ever built.

Just an opinion, but if you want the convertible (or coupe XK8) for more than two people, even kids, it's going to disappoint you. If I had to sell all my X3xxs except for one, I'd choose to keep the X350 in a heartbeat. But, frankly, they'd have to pry any of my Jaguars out of my cold dead hands.

Yah, +1 on stevetech's comments, unless you can agree with the signficant other that it'll only take two adults and MAYBE a small dog, you're gonna be having some heated debates...ones that will leave you in perhaps sleeping in another room.

I agree with Richard, get an 05+ XJR for now (avoid the 04s, please) and get the XK convertible after the kids have their own cars. whenever that may be. Trust me, they'll still be around and you can enjoy tanning the top of your head in due time.

Thanks for the comments. While the XK8 would be a great car, I think the comments that I may be in the dog house with the wife may be valid. With that said, a 2005 XJR does seem like a nice alternative. However, the asking prices for the 2005 XJR seem to vary greatly. What is a realistic purchase price for a 2005 XJR with about 50K miles?

Thanks
