I purchased my first Jaguar about two years ago, a 2000 Jaguar XK8 base. I didn't know anything about these cars when I bought it. I just thought it looked like a really slick car, and it's a lot of fun to drive. Got a good deal on it as a private sale, because it needed a bit of work. All new shocks and struts, new radiator, resolved minor oil leaks and replaced cooling hoses. I put in a new air intake duct, MAF sensor, and cleaned throttle body. And of course new battery and new Continental tires.
It's pushing 200k miles now, and it's my daily driver. While doing the valve cover gaskets, I discovered the timing chain tensioners and guides all need replaced. They're all original, and cracked. So now I'm taking the plunge into doing it myself.
It's a really great car to work on, and I love that there's so much space in the engine bay. I'm having a good time with it. I've been a lurker here for a while, and have learned a lot just from reading what you folks have put out here, so I thought I would join and tell you how much I have appreciate this community.
I hope to get to know you guys, though I expect I will not have too many questions, as so many projects have such extensive coverage already.

Thanks. I'm using this site on mobile, so I don't think the signature settings are available to me from what I can tell.
Hello,
Congratulations on all your successful repairs to date! Jags do have quite a Mystique, don't they. I call it "Soul."
And I firmly believe they *Choose* their owners, just like all cats do. In fact, my Next Jag will be an Xk8, probably convertible, and BLACK! My favorite!
I'm Really glad to read you've dealt with the timing stuff. In your place, at 200k miles, I'd change the belt too, as I've had Nasty Surprises from one or two, around 150k miles.
