Hello from the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC
Hello,
I officially joined this fine forum a couple months ago but then got distracted with the holidays and travels, so I never actually introduced myself. I purchased a 1995 XJ6 4.0 N/A, or X300 as I've learned from this site, not quite a year ago.
It was my mother's car for 17 years. She rarely drove it and asked if I'd help her sell it. There wasn't much interest and those that did test drive it were scared away due to it's desperate need for rear shocks at the time, so she only received a couple of, what I thought to be, lowball offers. But, she was ready to just part ways with it and save $ on ins for a car that just sat in the driveway. So, I said if she was going to let it go to someone at the prices she was being offered, I'd like to buy it - it's always been one of my favorite looking cars!
First thing I did was park it behind her house and replaced the rear shocks myself which, from the research I did, was a pretty enthusiastic first DIY repair on these cars. Then, as soon as the title was transferred, all the little issues from not being driven started to rear their heads. I was excited to buy it because I knew the PO and her driving style. I knew she certainly hadn't abused the engine...but quite possibly she didn't drive it hard enough.
As soon as I took over, hoses started bursting, tires separated, thermostat was stuck open, etc, etc.
Nevertheless, it was still fun to drive and the engine seemed strong!
I say "was" and "seemed," in the past tense, only because I'm experiencing a little issue with it right now and am not so in love with the car at the moment. I won't go into the details here as I just submitted a post and that's when I saw the header reminding me that I never actually introduced myself.
My user name is 82WingNut because I also ride a 1982 Honda Silverwing. I guess I just have a thing for the the classics...or I'm masochistic and subconsciously enjoy always wrenching on something.
Anyway, I just wanted to formally say, "hello."
Thanks for creating such a helpful site,
Keith

Welcome to the forum Keith,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Great Intro - worth the wait.
I can see you've already found your way to the X300 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link US Lower Atlantic - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
