Default Hello and Help for a Jag Newbie

Hello All:
This looks like a great forum. Always wanted a Jag and just bought a 2003 XKR with 80,000 miles. Took the car to the dealership to have the transmission fluid changed. (I am big about preventative maintenance). They said $395.00. I had heard the Jag fluid was $$ but still cheaper than a trannsmission so OK.
They called back in a hour and said my transmission pan and a connector sleeve were leaking and needed replacing to the tune of $1,250.
I went and picked it up. I peeked under the car (just on the ground) and everything looked dry as a bone.

I will have to jack it up to see what they are talking about.

Does anyone have a part number for the trans oil pan and the connector sleeve? The sleeve cannot be much, they said it was $22.00. Pan was $254.

I have changed many tranny filters etc., over the years. Is there some special thing I am missing for that much labor charge?

I appreciate your responses, especially part numbers. I bought a parts breakdown on ebay but it doesn't show the 6 speed in the 2003 XKR.

Thanks in advance,
David in Oklahoma

Hey, David. Welcome to JaguarForums. Grabbing a 2003 XKR as your first Jag is impressive. You're jumping right in with a really great automobile!!

JaguarForums is organized with dozens of "sub-forums", so you should repost your question over on the XK8 & XKR Forum. There are a bunch of reallly helpful folks over there, and several are very experienced Jaguar Techs. You will be amazed at the quality of advice you'll find there. You can also search that forum for transmission info and I'll bet you will find some good advice in existing posts. If you need parts, there are vendors that support the forum that are straight shooters, too.

All in all, I think you'll be glad you got that car, and joined this forum. See you over in XK8/R-land.

Cheers,
