Hello from Jim. Derbyshire
Hello to everyone,
I recently, December 2012 bought a 2004 XJR….this is where my Jaguar story begins.
I have always been a BMW man, gradually moving up though range (and power) culminating in my ideal BMW, within budget constraints of course, a 2004 645Ci black with cream leather, 330bhp, 1 owner, approved used BMW, etc, etc..…a very nice car.
In December 2012, I decided to treat myself and bought the XJR as I have always wanted a Jag but until now never even driven one, let alone owned one. Whilst still owning the 645Ci it was easy to directly compare the two cars (I know one is coupe and one a saloon, so some aspects will naturally differ). I was totally blown away by every aspect of the Jag; the quality, finesse, the pure driving pleasure and downright bonkers power. This WAS the Ultimate Driving Machine to me.
That was it….the BMW had to go and in came it’s replacement; a 2008 model XKR, Lunar Grey, black leather, Takoba 20” wheels.
I knew the XKR would be good, I was getting an upgrade on the BMW, i.e. a newer, more powerful and better looking car. However the XKR is out of this world! It leaves the BMW in it’s wake.
Every time I take out the XKR people literally stop and look at the car – a true head turner. This really surprised me and is a humbling experience. However people being people I have found an aggressive response from some road users which also surprised and disappointed me in equal measure.
Yes, the XKR has it’s faults, have the window down in the wet and you get a free shower from the gathering water on the roof whenever you turn a left hander, heater control area feels a bit Ford / Vauxhall like in quality/looks (Jag addressed this point in the 2009 facelift) I can’t really get comfortable in the drivers seat, no legroom in rear (doesn’t bother me), very small boot space (ditto). I have found the more I drive it the more I grin and the more love the car despite these minor niggles.
Anyway, if you have got this far reading my intro, Thank you for taking time to do so.
