Default Hello from Louisiana

Hello there! I'm from Louisiana and have joined this forum because I'm going to be hopefully buying my first Jaguar next week. It's a red 2001 XK8 Coupe with 125K miles on it and it's a beautiful flawless looking car. But before I buy it, I wanted to join the forum and get an insight on what specifics I need to inquire about talking to the current owner. I hope some of the existing long time XK8 owners here can steer me into the right direction so I won't make a bad choice purchasing it. Thanks!

The Ragin Cajun

Thanks a million for the welcome and especially those two links. I need an educational crash course on this particular XK8 and I believe you've just provided it. I appreciate it. Thanks!

Check the FAQ's for information about:

1. tensioners (plastic)
2. cooling system
3. transmission fluid changes (NOT scheduled by Jaguar but recommended)

Also one of the most regular questions from newbies is about replacement keys and remote fobs. The XK8 should have:

2 - Master keys (black headed)
1 - Valet Key (green headed)
2 - Remotes

Remotes can be found on ebay and programmed by the owner but keys have to be programmed by a dealer or someone with similar level diagnostics which can be expensive.

Thanks Graham. Yes, I've been reading about those tensioner problems. I asked the owner and he said he bought the car for his wife at 111K miles and he didn't know at the time about the plague of the tensioners. He said he was unaware of the previous owner (who he said pampered the car) replaced them. He told me I'd have to take the valve cover off to check if they've been replaced with the updated metal ones.
