Default Hello from me !

Hi Guys,

New to the forum, and new to Jags (got my first, a 1997 XJ8 4.0 x308 a couple of months ago).

She's done 108,000miles, is Sapphire Blue with Oatmeal/Antelope interior, and I LOVE her !!!

Unfortunately, she's just killed her secondary tensioners, so is awaiting replacements right now, but she'll back back on the road soon.

Regards,
Mint.

Welcome to the forum Mint,

It was all sounding so good until I got to the third line. Hope it's soon fixed.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for help and advice.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome to the forum Minty,

Good to have you with us.
I hope it wasn't a total disaster.

If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Hmmmm ..... had already updated my signature, but it's not showing up .....

Anywayz, thanks for the welcome guys!!

Luckily, I don't think any damage has been done (fingers-well-and-truly-crossed), she started up ok, but then came that rattle-rattle-rattle at the front of the passenger bank. So, she got rapidly switched off, and hasn't been touched since.

Just waiting for my mechanic to finish his house move, then hopefully she'll get sorted out. I've read the posts on how to change tensioners, but I've never stripped an engine down that far before, so gonna play it safe and let a professional do it :-)

Seriously hope so Graham!! For the two months I've had her, she ran as sweet as a dream.

For a 15yr old car, I am quite impressed on how smooth she runs.

And even more impressed at how "relaxed and gentlemanly" the acceleration is .... until you kick her down, then the old girl picks up her skirts, screams like a banshee, and goes for gold

Not something I was expecting from a big old saloon tbh !! I'd love to have a go in the X308 XJR ..... that must be a REAL smile maker

Welcome to the forum.

Good to see you.

Your mechanic has a very big truck I presume

Best of luck with the engine.

4.0-rattle from the passenger bank?? Did you mean side? Inline 6 cyl engines do not have banks per se.

Hi RagJag ... it's a 4.0 v8 - first year of the x308 xj8. The rattle comes from the front of the passenger bank of cylinders.

Okay, my mistake. A friend of mine has one of those V-8 engines (not Ford), 'O1 I think. He is having some hard-to-start issues. Starts cold but grinds a lot when hot after sitting 15 minutes or so. It is about to drive him crazy. I hope you find a cure without having to tear into the engine too much.

Okay, todays award for the best analogy goes to Minty!

Thank you! Oh! Thank you! I can hardly believe it! I feel so honoured! I just want everyone to know that even in my wildest dreams, I never would have thought that this could ever happen to me!

There are so many people to thank! First off, I want to thank the Forum Academy, who looked at so many other worthy nominees before choosing little old me for this fantastic award! Also, I want to thank my parents for being such a powerful force in my life. And to my sister, who taught me to take life by the horns and enjoy it, no matter what it throws at you - I thank you. And finally, to the wonderful script writers, directors, producers, and all the backroom technical guys - I couldn't have done it without you! You guys don't get the praise you deserve, but without you, these moments simply wouldn't be possible!
