Exclamation Hello from New Jersey - Just got a 99 XJ8

Picked up this cool car, not I need some help LOL

So here is the store ... Found this car, and fell in love with it. Car was sitting for a while, and I was able to negotiate a good price. Worked a while in his garage to start it up and take it for a test drive. Was awesome, no issues!! Woo Hoo! So I brought the car back, and parked it. When I came back with the money, he had it washed, and sitting in the drive. Took it for another short ride, and on the way back, the car stalled, and the low oil pressure warning came on. Oh crap. So was able to restart it, and it sounded like golf ***** in a blender. The oil filter had a rust hole, and it leaked out all the oil. (was not leaking when I first drove it, but I could see an oil trail where he washed it.
So now, I was still able to get the car ($500) and am going to haul the engine out and either rebuild the bottom end, or replace it. So look for the new thtrad I am starting about a 4.0 - 4.2 (not supercharged ) swap.

Hello, John,
I'm sorry about your engine trouble, but you did get a screaming deal even if you have to do some engine work.

What if you filled it with oil and started it? If it doesn't sound too bad you might buy yourself a little time (cheapskate farmer talk).

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum John,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Sorry to hear about the engine but can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum for advice so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
