Hello from Sacramento, CA
HI Everyone,
I've raided another State, Arizona, and deprived them of a Jaguar X-Type. It's here in California with me now.
It's a 2005 that I've bought as a surprise for my mother. When I was a kid, she loved the Jags and I promised her that I'd buy her a Jag someday. Welp, nobody is getting younger and I felt it was time to make good on the promise. I've had some toys and before I even consider the thought of someday trying to make good on buying that Lamborghini I promised myself I'd get someday, I outta' keep my promise to my mother, first.

It wasn't a super-fantastic buying experience. I searched and searched and ended up buying from a place called Luxor Auto Group in AZ. They have dealerships in Scottsdale and Mesa, and I dealt with the Mesa office and a saleman named "Paul." The first question out of my mouth was whether it had paint work and whether it had body work. I got a negative answer for both. When the car arrived, I could see the back bumper was repainted and now flaking off, the front bumper was repainted and the front driver's fender was repainted. Signs suggested a front collision at some point as well. The OEM bumper was missing some of the fastening points for bolts to hold the missing fenderliner to the front bumper. The power seats weren't working, and the suspension sounded loud to me. This concerned me because of the undisclosed accident, but after having my mechanic check it out, I think it was just a fender bender. Supension was worn and new bushings and balljoints solved the problem. Some trouble codes had to be reset and at least the driver's side power seat is operational again. I'm still working (read: fighting) the dealership for some reimbursement in light of all the undisclosed stuff, but am not holding my breath since it's a used car. Arguably though, it was a material misrepresentation when the salesman told me there was no paint or body work, in direct response to my specific question. But that's a whole other can of worms. I'll be happy if I can just get $500 out of them to put towards fresh paint on the rear bumper and that $300 fenderliner I had to get.
Never break your rules. I broke mine when I bought forom a used car dealer and trusted them to be truthful in response to my questions, rather than a private party that would allow me to inspect the car independently at a mechanic or dealership. C'est la vie!
On the positive note, it shows and drives well. Brilliant color that I certain my mother will like. It's got 45k on the clock and I've flushed the transmission, the tires are fresh, and I think it's basically ready to go. I'm going to deliver it next week. I'll have to ask my folks to pay attention to the brakes. The fronts will need to be done probably by winter. I want to add HIDs to it, but not until I figure out the headlight issue it seems to have:

Hello and welcome to jaguarforums.com.
One other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.
Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.
Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
(Odd, new signature doesn't seem to want to come up. I'm guessing it will for the next "new" posting, rather than an edit of an old post)

Welcome Stanae but please dont shoot everyone from AZ due to one bad deal. SHould of had a car fax or Autocheck done on the car. least you would have known if it was something major. Im sure mom will love it no matter. good luck.
Welcome!!
I know EXACTLY how you feel for jumping multi-states away only to find the dealer wasn't, shall we say "accurate" with the presentation of the car! lol... I'm from Michigan and flew to Virginia to pickup my '02 X-type and it was surely not as advertised. But I learned from the guys here on this forum many things about the car before I even bought it. And that helped me get the price down to reflect the issues I found with the car.
But the best part - was driving home for 12 hours thru the mountains of West Virginia and Pennsylvania in a new Jag X-type!!! What FUN I had!
Your mother will love the new car. And welcome here. From one newbie to another.

I'm mostly happy with the car, but I'm pretty **** about my cars. Still, I sunk some extra money into it that I shouldn't have had to, but at the end, it will be in good shape for my mom. It will need a brake job soon, but I'll have her keep and eye and ear on it. I'll probably have it done in about 3-4 months time.
