Default Hello from Salt Lake City (for now)

Hi everyone, very informative forum, I've already found some very useful pieces of information on here, and hope to contribute if I can.

Picked up a new 09 XF last month. Had some issues with it that are all but one fixed:

1. p0491/492 CEL/MIL on, ECM update done a couple of weeks after delivery.

2. Small star crack in wood center console veneer. Sent off by the dealer for sanding/polishing. Came back looking better than the other pieces.

3. p0411 came on last week an now has turned itself back off. Waiting for the fix.

4. Finally, my dealer does not know how to wash cars. The one I picked out had been sitting for a while and they put spider scraches in the clear coat all over the thing. Spent 14 hours of a Saturday with a wash/claybar/DA polisher/hand waxing to bring it back to better than showroom. Wintergold really darker/deeper now, both sales and service asked who did the detail for me . The black B pillars and small sail window pillars were especially atrocious. Cell phone pics below of before and after while working on them. No whole car pics yet, of course it snowed the very next day and it got parked.

Wow! Nice job on the chrome! What did you use for that?
Welcome to the forums!! I (think I speak for everyone else when I say we all) look forward to full on body shots of your XF.

Thanks for the welcome. That's actually not chrome. It's the black polycarbonate they use for the pillars. I used a 7424 dual action polisher on 1-2, a lake country white CCS foam pad primed with megs #34 final inspection and megs scratchX for a polish, followed by mother's california gold non-abrasive solid carnauba wax.

Thanks for the welcome cadillac

I test drove quite a few cars while shopping, the way it drove, interior materials/fit/finish were several cuts above the rest even considerably more expensve cars.

Nice work on the detail.... Stick with it on the trim.. Have them replace it until it's right. And welcome to the forums....

It already has a fine layer of dust on it, so not the best pictures. I'm getting confident enough I'm considering doing some professional detailing on the side. I've been at it for 6+ years now on my own cars, my Dad's and a freebie for a friend at work. He couldn't believe how bad his dark blue subaru was till he saw it after I was done, it looked so dark indoors he thought it looked black till we took it out in the sun

I really enjoy doing it especilly on poorly taken care of paint jobs, plus it's good exercise. Let me know what you guys think.
