Default Hi all, new to forum XJS owner Ex pat Brit in Germany

Good day all , I have a BRG 1992 4 liter XJS , it has been in my ownership for 18 months and i havnt really started sorting it out yet. I did a few jobs just to get it approved by the German TÜV , they are usually a monumental pain in the *** but it went rather smoothly.

In the near future the brakes, suspension paint and interior will be getting a good seeing to, i shall endeavour to do the work myself where possible. I love the lines, the colour and the britishness of the car , i will be using it to tour europe and to tour a small boat that i plan to purchase in due course. I want a comfy GT , a little pace and lots of grace is all that is required. If i wanted to hoon about i could thrash the corvette c6, also a great motor but rather soulless.

My XJS was in japan but then reimported to the Uk, i picked her up and drove her to Germany , the land of good beer , the air guitar and bloody fast roads. In holland the car tried to kill me , it was dark oclock and deepest winter, i had engaged the cruise control at 140 kph and i was listening to voodoo child with my ipod,(stereo is knackered) , suddenly as jimmy hendrix is reaching his musical climax the car went sideways and accelerated hard , i had hit ice and the cruise control went rather silly it took a good 100 meters to get her back under control , all the while i was screaming like jimmys guitar , it got very very close to the steel barriers,,now that would have been rather irritating on its maiden trip with me .

Since then it has been more peaceful , I hit a Deer at 100kph (ipod and fleetwood mac this time, Rhiannon) , when i got home a few minutes later i almost couldnt look at the car for fear of the possible damage. She is a tank, one smashed headlight and dented bonnet,,a good excuse to fit quadlamps and i had the bonnet repaired and all is well. Incedentally the quad lamps are a huge improvement over the original glow worm headlamps.

So who am I, very briefly, ex British military, settled in Germany , 43 years young , working world wide as security contract operator. Currently in Oman , toooo hot , that is all for now, be good.

Hmm. I detect a recurrent theme here.

"good beer , the air guitar and bloody fast roads."

Resulting in;
" it was dark oclock and deepest winter, i had engaged the cruise control at 140 kph"
"i had hit ice"

I would say that under those conditions your car actually PROTECTED you rather than tried to kill you. Give credit where due, Dan, credit where due.

Welcome from ElinorB.
