hi everyone-x308-battery.jpg

This is the Emergency Start illustration from the Vehicle Care Manual but it shows the battery location and the panels to be lifted out for access.

2. Wing Mirrors:
the colour should match the car. They are easy to spray.

3: Sticking Aerial
a common issue. They sometimes clean up successfully but aftermarket replacements are available at reasonable cost.

thank you once again graham excellent info, your a top man.
is there such a thing as being to young to own a jag? maybe a silly question.

the pics will take while if you want to see it really clean but i can take some of the areas that need attention now and post back when they are sorted. the wing mirror cover can be sorted at the same time as the little rust patch's.

I've owned Jaguars since I was 22 and the only thing stopping me was not being able to afford one before that! I'm 63 now so that's many Jaguars come and gone since then.

cheers graham, thats what i thought, im 31, and friends keep saying its an old mans car etc etc, but i will see who is laughing when i go cruising past them in there astra's and ford focus's! lol and in comfort. but anyway i dont care what people think, me and my family are comfy and safe, alot of things most cars dont have. judging from the pics you have seen so far what would you say is a fair price for the car? just trying to see if i got a good deal or not.

Your friends will tell you:

1. it's an old man's car
2. always going wrong
3. costs a fortune to run

BUT when it comes to which car to take when you're all going somewhere, the Jaguar always gets the vote!

Provided you check the weak points (already covered in previous posts here) and can do all or most of the maintenance yourself, it need cost little more to run than their Astras and Focus.

As I and others have remarked here, it looks in good condition. Cars of the same year and spec are being advertised in a very wide range between £900 to £1900. If you got it near the lower figure, you've done extremely well. Condition, full service history, low number of previous owners and low mileage make a huge difference and easily push up the asking price. As long as you didn't pay anywhere near the top, you've done OK.

ok i got it for £650 but no service history, but i will service it in a month or so my self anyway, just for peice of mind, 3 previous owners so not to bad i think for the age of it. at 130k miles its only just broke in i think, your thoughts? also there was no advisory's on the mot which runs til the 21st of april and its taxed til the end of sept. i must admit i am starting to wounder if there is something hidden that i have missed that was wrong with it. it deffinatly does not over heat or anything, gear changes are smooth, brakes are as sharp as they should be. i think i am going to have to do some research on common faults etc and see if i have missed something. i have found my genric obdII device does not want to read the car. not sure if it is just the code reader or not tho.

That's trade 'bottom book' (buying price) so they may have just been looking to move it. 3 owners is reasonable and 130K below average miles.

No service history on a Jaguar is unusual. The lack could be carelessness or trying to hide something. You can start to build this yourself:

1. pull the full MoT History from the VOSA (or OpenGov UK) website. Previous advisories or big gaps with no MoT tell their own story
2. if you have the V5C showing the previous owner's name and address, contact them asking for any information. Quite often this approach turns up missing history and a folder of receipts!
3. request previous registration history from DVLA ( www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla ) - they charge £5 for this.
4. if in doubt, put it in for an MoT. Ask them to do the test but not log it on VOSA so if it was to fail for any reason, this wouldn't appear in the MoT records.

Not being able to read the codes is a problem because this can tell you so much. If it's P1111 with no other codes - great news. If it's P1000 with a string of codes - not so good.

LOL! Not stupid at all. Shortly after I bought mine I went to jump my other car, lined 'em up as you do, popped the hoods (bonnets, to you?) and stood there with my jumper cables staring blankly for several seconds before removing plastic pieces and getting totally flummoxed. A half hour after trying to decipher the owner's manual (how come the car in the diagram looks different than mine?) I finally just gave up.

Welcome to Jag ownership and to the forum.

Welcome to Jag ownership and to the forum.
im glad im not the only one then, my dad did have jag where the battery was in the boot (trunk) but it was an older jag and was above the floor, so did think it was a bit strange, but it is handy thing to know where it is. lol thank you for the welcome, everyone seems to just as helpful on here as they do on volvo forum i was on. well i was hoping to go dig around the jag today (even shipped the kids of to nanny's) but just as they were leaving it started raining. o well, may just go get wet and do it anyway. im sure it will be worth it.

the plan at the minute for the car, i have a friend who is going to sort the 2 little rust patch's for me, when i asked him about the wing mirror, he did say he has some carbon fibre sticky stuff that he could stick on them, now im in 2 minds to do that or not, i think it will look good but on the other hand i like to keep things as orginal as poss, whats your thoughts guys? he said once the rust patch's have been sorted he will help me give a good mop and bring a nice shine back. the inside really does need much doing at all, a good clean and that will be sorted.

also on another note, my better half has said that i havent stopped smiling since i have picked it up. so thats got to be a good thing! i will be even happier once my old car has been sold tho. its a volvo v70 on a t reg if you or know anyone that would be interested, i would say its in better than average condition for its age, has had a lot money spent on it.

cheers dave

There's a Jaguar sticker on the passenger door pillar with the 3 letter Paint and 3 Letter Trim codes.

Dave,

Door pillar / door rear edge:

hi everyone-sticker.jpg

or under the bonnet on the radiator top panel:

hi everyone-sticker-2.jpg

If you can't find the sticker, a UK Jaguar Dealer will usually just give this information from the VIN.
