Welcome to the forum Dave,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. The XJ8 certainly does look to be a very tidy example and also in one of my favourite colour combinations.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK Region section by following this link UK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in this country.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Dave,

Correct - and that is one of the known weaknesses of the early V8's.

The early engines were fitted with plastic tensioners and these can break with catastrophic results. The solutions is to fit latest generation metal tensioners as used on the later 4.2 litre engines.

You'll find full information on this and the fitting procedure in the FAQ's at the top of X308 and XK8/XKR sections.

Dave,

The only way to be certain is to take the cam covers off and have a look.

The inside looks as tidy as the outside.

I had the same colour combination on an X300 Sport. Didn't really like the dark wood veneer to start with but it grew on me.

It's the trip Computer Switch Pack. Full details in the Driver's Handbook in Section 3.13

If your XJ8 doesn't have the Vehicle Literature Pack, you can download the documents as PDF's free from my MediaFire account. Follow the links.

Driver's Handbook:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/a2cd1i...8_16_12_00.pdf

Vehicle Care Manual:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/05qt82...8_02_12_00.pdf

These two should answer most of your immediate questions as you get to know the vehicle.

lol thats was a brill smile, there will be pics coming soon mate, i was a bit busy in the end yesterday, went to show a few family and friends and ended up chatting as you do. i think i already have a booking for a wedding next year, not that was the reason i got it, but it is for a friend. well what would you like to see pics of? another question, maybe sound really stupid but where is the battery, im going to guess its under the tool thingy in the engine bay?
another question, the wing mirror covers are diffrent coulors passenger side is blue same as the rest of the car but driver side is silver, is this on purpose or can i spray it the same as the rest of the car? didnt know if they done it to make it more visible at nite or something stupid like that. there is a few little things that need doing to it, but just as and when really, things like the ariel dont go all the way up and it wont pick up my favourite station so thats the first thing. there is a little surface rust coming though i have someone to sort that for me, apart from that it just needs a good clean as far as i know so far!
