Smile Hi guys, noobie coming through ('99 XJR) Hints and suggestions

Hi guys, recently purchased my first Jag, a beautiful black 1999 XJR with about 100,000 on the clock (a lot I know but she looks in good knick and runs really well).

I'm a reasonably competent home mechanic and am willing to tackle most things so was just wondering if you guys, in your expert opinions, would have any specific recommendations as to things to do to the old girl?

Not really after mad power up-grade's, just keen to get her back up to her book BHP (as i'm paying for it in the insurance premiums i feel i should dam well have 370!!!) Thinking about ultrasonic injector cleaning, vacuum leak test and new plugs for now. Anyone with any experience/advice on any of these or other recommendations? (any sensors to clean/change for example so she runs like new)

So far i have changed engine oil + filter, Super charger oil, diff oil, power steering fluid, coolant, brake fluid and front pads and got some new tyres on the way.

Found some great info on here for the above jobs so was really after some info as to what to search for + any general tips etc.

Many thanks

Alex

Default appears my questions may be being answered :icon_idea1:

Just noticed there is a thread running on a similar topic already, so i'll follow these, but anything else beyond these (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=37461) much appreciated.

Cheers

Alex

Default Must try harder...

Ok, having just found, and read, the 'Read first before posting bit...' (my bad) i though i should say a few bits about myself.

I'm called alex, live in Wiltshire, south west UK and own a black 4.0 XJR (F00... VIN series) In my early 20's (don't ask how i afford such a machine as if we're honest I'm not sure and I know my Girlfriend would much rather i spent the cash else where ) and recently graduated from finishing my masters.

So please consider this my 1st proper post and the previous two to come after this.

Ta

Alex

Thanks for the warm welcome, as soon as i hit the magic 10 posts i'll have to get some pics up. In my humble opinion these XJ's are some of the best looking car out there; nothing, (well aside from the sky high running costs, laughable fuel economy (especially when the right foot 'slips'), intermittent restricted performance messages and a rattle that i cannot trace...) i love every minuite of having the jaaag.
