Default Hi - Newbie researching SIII XJ

Hi. I'm a newbie. Live in the SF Bay Area of CA.

I joined to research the series III Jag XJ and learn about other models as well. I always liked the lines of the XJ series in general and might be on the market someday.

Cheers.

Also, I don't tend to post much on forums. I'm mostly a lurker and Searcher.

Howdy from Napa. I have some experience with the SIII cars as I have worked on my dads from time to time. From my own experience (and others may have different opinions) they tend to need a bit more maintenance than other cars but not anything that is abnormal. I have had issues with alot of the switches and electrical system but about 80% of those ended up just needed a good cleaning. The L-Jetronic FI system seems to be pretty reliable, the drivetrain seems to be solid but shock replacement is a pain from what I can recall. In my humble opinion, they're beautiful cars and are (or can be brought up to be) reliable if you simply have the time to put into them. Once you have reached that point, they seem to be mechanically good cars. And you just can't beat the ride and the looks. Good luck!

Cheers.

Mikey

I'm sure you do. But as someone new to Jags, I wouldn't even know what to ask about in a post w/o sounding like an idiot. Its easier and quicker to read what others have said in the past and learn from past discussions.

Howdy Mikey. Tasty part of CA you live in.

They are definitely pretty cars. I love the lines - other than the somewhat oversized bumpers.

I'm somewhat used to maintenance intensive cars and can live with nuances so long as they don't leave me stranded on the side of the road every 2 months like my BMW used to.

I'd love to learn more about the suspensions and brakes if anyone has a working link.

Thanks.

Al
