Smile Im New Here

Hello All

Im a 22 year old jaguar lover (not quite an enthusiast) but i have a natural talent with electronics

I own a XJ6 Series 1 Original manual (with a new motor) but its currently off the road because of insurance and rego costs

Im currently working on a replacement ECU to replace the Lucas/Bosch L-Jetronic (5cu) for the XJ6 Series 2 and 3, it will be a direct replacement module, all you have to do is plug it in and drive off

Since i dont know much about cars (i know enough to fix them though with my dads help) im looking for ideas on what you would like in a custom ECU?

If you would like to know more, feel free to email me (agilly1989@gmail.com) please put a subject in it containing ECU QUESTION or post on my blog Adins Microprocessor Controlled L-Jetronic ECU or just post it after this post

Ill be happy to answer your questions or take on your advice or listen to your ideas, i might be able to incorporate some of them into my prototype

Hi Agilly,
Welcome to the forum. A modern engine ECU is an ambitious project. I commend you on your electronic skills, and what are sure to be your newly learned automobile engine tuning skills after you pull it off. I wish you well, and encourage you to stick around here and let us know how you're doing.

All the best,
Steve

Thanks Steve... its not a modern ECU per say, it'll only control the injector pulse timings (like the 5cu already does), it'll just add a programmable/tunable feature to it so you can get better fuel consumption out of the rather large 4.2L jaguar motor

Futher models of my ECU might control spark timing but im looking in creating a simple to use, simple to install, simple to program ECU for the enthusiast or just the normal person who wants to get better economy out of their car

Hello Agilly and welcome to the forum,

You're not just taking on a complex piece of development but have the ability to explain the logic very clearly on your blog. Look forward to following your progress with it.

Graham

Thank you Graham...

Just on a side note, ill happily take on any broken L-Jetronic 5CU ECUs (which may be very few cause they are very reliable from what i have heard)

a formidable task!
If successful you should consider expanding into other models! There are several V12 members who would love to have that option on their ECU's!

Unfortunately i dont have a V12 to test on, BUT there wouldnt be much to change in the code and the circuit to suit V12s.... But yes... I am already thinking of making it simple to change for various sized motors, different cylinder counts, different tacho sensing (hall effect, points, etc).... i just learnt that i need to have yet ANOTHER pin to use because of the trip computer output

Just a note (Since i dont know if you can edit posts or not)... i hope to have a breadboard prototype running within 2 months (all things going well with my health) and a fully finished prototype (in an original 5cu case) in 6 months (all things going well)
