Default Introduction

I recently bought a 1998 Jaguar XJR. It has 140,000 miles but has good care and is in very good condition inside and out. Black on black.

You might get a chuckle out of this, but when I was in high school in the 1980's I used to watch The Equalizer on TV. That was the first time I ever saw a Jaguar, and I told myself that someday I'd own a black Jaguar. I like the traditional body style of the XJR best, which ended after the 2003 model year as far as I can tell from my research.

This car won't see much hard use although I love the power it has and I will have plenty of fun with it. I will take it out on nice days, and on relatively short trips in good weather. I plan to fix it up to near new condition, although it is in remarkably good condition as is.

I am going to replace the aftermarket wheels and tires with factory Asteroid wheels that were available on the 2000-2003 models (I think). It needs the carpet cleaned and some general TLC. I need to get a second key and fob for it, and a valet key. I'm a little bit particular, though I wouldn't say ****, and I want to achieve a complete car in perfect working order as close to factory original as possible.

Someday I would like to install an aftermarket radio so I can play music from my phone, but I will only do that if I can find a plug and play adapter kit so none of the original wiring is compromised. I will want to be able to re-install the original radio if I ever sell the car.

I believe the timing chain tensioners have been replaced, and the engine seems snappy and tight with no smoke, rattles, or unfriendly noises at all. The transmission shifts smoothly. I will no doubt run into problems, but I didn't pay much for the car so I'm prepared for it to need just about anything!

Thank you for reading! I'll have some questions as I go along.

Oh, you got a Jaguar XJR before they became Forduars! Congratulations!!
I agree, the styling of British Leyland Jaguars is original and truly Timeless, never trying to look like anything else. Everyone recognizes those cars as Jaguars!

Someone will be along soon to direct you to the proper section for your car.
