Jaguar XK8 Passenger Seat Not Working
Hi,
I recently became a Jaguar XK8 owner - and I would appreciate any insight into why the fuse blew on the passenger seat controls.
The fuse is a 20 AMP - and when I temporarily bypassed it with a piece of 22 Gauge wire - the seat worked.
I didn't replace the fuse yet - because I am trying to find out why it blew in the first place.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

First a bit of advice from an electrical engineer: Never, ever, bypass a fuse. It is better to lose another 50 cent fuse than possibly cause $1000's in damaged to your wiring harness or even a fire. It appears you were fortunate in this case.
The first step would be to remove the gray seat contoller from under the seat, and inspect carefully for chafed wiring, which can be caused by seat movement and vibration.

Hi, and thanks for the reply!
I am quite aware of the dangers you mentioned (But, nevertheless, I appreciate the warning) I just wanted to be able to move the seat from it's position which was all the way back to a little bit towards to front. As soon as I moved it - I took out the fuse, and removed the piece of wire, and replaced the broken fuse back in the panel. I would NEVER leave the fuse by-passed for the very same dangers you mentioned.
Once again - thanks for the reply, and have a great day!
P.S. How do you get to the wiring below the seat to inspect for chaffing etc. ?
Thanks so much!

Unbolt the seat and rewrap everything. But most of the time its the wiring that goes over the metal bracket right before the seat module under the seat. Wrap and tie strap and youre good to go. Useally sitting in the seat is what pops the fuse. Maybe a diet/exercise for your passenger is in order now

Hi,
Thanks so much for the help.
I did take a quick peek with a lighted mirror - the wires appear to be OK.
I will unbolt the seat as you suggested - and re-wrap etc.
I did find a small foam toy ball that was wedged under there pretty good!? Do you think that this could have been the source of the problem to begin with? Anyway thanks again!
P.S. I also have an issue with the ABS/ASC light being on all the time - is this a sensor issue, and if so, where does one find the ABS sensor to replace it?
I really appreciate your taking the time and trouble to reply.
Thanks
