Post Jaguar xkr failed tensioner

I would appreciate any thoughts on the responsibility of a jaguar dealer to advise you of the potential problems with a plastic tensioner on 2001 XKR with over 100000 kms and when it should be replaced. I see it has a history of problems.

Hi Kenave and welcome to the forum!
You'll have better luck with your questions under the XKR/XK8 section

Welcome to the forum,

Yes please ask over in the XK section, you will need to provide more detail on the background to your tensioner issues.

Barring known history, and the fact that we still cannot look past steel, plastic and even cardboard. Theres no way to know short of pulling the cam covers. Since you know the history of the issue, you are now an informed owner and should have them checked at the least and be ready for replacement cause pulling the cam covers is half the job, good news is though that you really only need to pull 1 side. To check if theyre plastic.

Hello and welcome to jaguarforums.com. I know that you are anxious to get started and we are anxious to meet you and talk about your car. We have a baseline / criteria that must be met before full access can be granted. Please enjoy the forum and be patient once the baseline has been satisfied full access will be granted. Please continue to post and accept my welcome to the forum.

Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Your question is a double edged blade. Few customers are offended when the shop tells you that you need this and that. What most customers do not understand is that they have the option to do or ignore. What many do is say yes to the repair and moan about the cost. I like to be told what needs to be done knowing I can look past what does not need to be done.

Dealerships should take the time to cover any potential problems that they identify. If they have not then you need to become an informed consumer and tell them and ask them why they did not tell you.

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering if there are any Jaguar service bulletins out there that deal with plastic tensioner issues for vehicles from 1998-2001. Has anybody had the same problem as me? The secondary timing tensioner broke, valve hit the pistons and that is all she wrote for the engine.
