Just Bought a 2005 XJR
Hey everybody,
I bought a beautiful 2005 Jaguar XJR last Sunday. I've wanted this car ever since I worked at the Jaguar dealership washing and detailing cars during the summers back in high school. Now that depreciation has taken its toll, I can afford to buy one outright!
I drove to Indianapolis, Indiana from my home in Charleston, West Virginia to buy it. It has a few issues that I'm working to fix but the car is in great cosmetic shape. I'm a shade-tree mechanic, so I will be doing most of the work myself. I've already ordered brake rotors and pads because the previous owner informed me that it needed new brakes. The headliner is also falling down but I think I'm going to outsource that job since upholstering is beyond my skillset. I also need to fix the inoperable rear sun shade, the center console that doesn't open (I've already figured out why-broken handle), the windshield washers that dribble, and replace the dry-rotting old tires.
A fun problem popped up two days after I bought the car. I was driving home from work, slowing down for a stop light, when the engine dropped to idle and the throttle stopped working. I coasted to the side of the road and turned the car off and back on again, and everything was fine. There are no codes, but after some research on this forum, it sounds like the car went into limp mode and that the TPS is at fault. I've ordered a new aftermarket TPS to install.
Once I fix these things, it should be good as new! I also still have my old Subaru 2.5RS wagon clone for backup and winter duty.
