Question Mark 1 Enging Rear Sear "Help Needed"

Hello to all the members
I have a 1956 Jag Mark 1 and have been working on this project for some time.
I am replacing the rear engine seal etc and was wondering if this engine had just the scroll seal ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
I live in Australia and i'm also have trouble finding a place that sells a gasket kit/seals.
Thanks In advacnce.

Welcome to the forum Dave-Mark1,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. It's many years since I fitted one of those and at the time it was the unimpressive looking but effective 'rope' seal. If there's a better solution available now, members with the same model will be able to advise.

Follow this link MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the MK1 section for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Australia / New Zealand Region section by following this link Australia / New Zealand - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your part of the World.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Thank You Guy's for the warm welcome, i'm flat out at the moment but will update my profile as soon as possible. The kit i bought came with the rope seal but now they are packed full of graphite , not like the rope seals i remember and i'm 45 lol.. which were the same but without the graphite. You can buy a kit now to get rid of the rope seal and this uses the newer silicon/teflon seal, The kit has a billet aluminium thingy ma jig that replaces the piece that bolts to the back of your block, but you do need to have the crank machined for this seal.

Dave,

Be good to see photos of the original and replacement setup. I'm 18 years further along the road than you so it was all rope seals when I was last doing them!

Dave,

It hasn't linked in your post but I've used the string to pick it up directly:

It's looking a lot better than many did thirty years ago!

You can add by linking to the URL's but I find it easier and more reliable to upload from my PC.

You have to use the Advanced button on the right below the post. Here's the procedure as a set of screen shots (click on the images to enlarge them):

I prefer this method because the images are stored on the forum server. very often URL's break and older posts with images no longer have the link.

Dave,

It's worth you starting a new thread in MKI section for the rebuild photos. Many members are fascinated by the older models, even those who have never owned them.
