Default Mr A Smith

Customer: 97 XK8 convertible- had cylinder head gasket failure , went to local independent 6m a go for quote - had the car 6 weeks before responding ( which was fine not in a hurry) quoted £4000 plus for repairs . Agreed ,subsequently found other issues and quoted accepted and moved on . Had the car for six months now had agreed to approx £8200 for repairs. Totally ignored me for last three months despite chasing , when ever I verbally spoke to them , they said they would call back ( again not too worried not in a hurry ) . Finally getting fed up a few weeks ago and constantly chased - finally got a reply stating all fixed and ready for collection - I said great , will collect upon return from a trip but forward invoice I was expecting balance of 5200 inc vat ( paid for parts previously ) however invoice received was for a £8600 , no explanation- shocked replied with copy of quote and requested explanation- 2 days later got a reply stating ECU failed and they had to use a xj8 replacement from a donor car - they reduced bill by £1000 but still not authorised ??? Is this reasonable from well known independent in West Sussex ? JA: Is there anything else the Jaguar XJ8 Mechanic should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you. Customer: I just feel badly treated and wanted to understand if that is a fair price for cylinder head and ecu repair ? Thank you best Andy

Welcome to the forums Andy,

I'll start by saying this forum is NOT the place to air grievances over dealers, independents or repair costs. That being said, what is "reasonable" depends on time and parts. Without a detailed breakdown of hours and parts, it's impossible to understand what work has been done. For example, the Jaguar V8 rarely just blows a head gasket. Loss of coolant or other reason for overheating almost always results in warped heads and in the majority of instances this is unrecoverable.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, Andy,
I'm so sorry for your bad experience. I suppose there's not much to do now but chalk it up to experience and move on.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
