Need advice, no start problem
2000 xj8, changed valve cover gaskets, on trying to start car it ran for only a second or two, then showed red restricted performance. Checked cams and found the flats are alined perfectly, timing chain tension is good, checked cylinder compression and low (40psi) across all cylinders. checked spark plugs and getting good spark, restricted performance code won't clear, car has 80,000 miles , no heating problem and no signs of head gasket problems either, can hand crank and don't hear noise and cranks easily. Was told that could have had exhaust cam stuck, due to no oil. as had to leave cams exposed for several days while getting new valve cover gaskets due to wrong size on first order, Local mechanic wants to check timing, but don't know if worth the expense if this not problem. Crank sensor and cam sensors don't seem to be the problem, as am getting good gas and spark plug spark. What do I look for next? I'm out of ideas.
