With the referendum behind us I am pleased to say I am from a Britain that still includes Scotland - a beautiful Country that has magnificent roads admirably suited for play with our big cats.

OK so I am a Brit who lives in the countryside just outside London. Am 60 years of age and have run Jaguars some 15 years - the last 10 years or so in the bigger engined V8 S Types. I cover about 15,000 miles a year which for the model is fairly high given that the car is my own and not company owned or maintained.

So what do I run ? A 2004 S Type R in ultraviolet (blue) with a warm charcoal and grey interior. I acquired her in 2008 with 8,000 miles on the clock and she is now showing 120,000 miles.

Problems - yes quite a few and mainly to do with the electronics but the issues were exacerbated by the fact that the dealer and independent jaguar specialists were unable to resolve the issue first time. You would think (hope) that the matter had been resolved only for it to reappear at some point during the next two or three months. Another visit to the garage, the same hope that it had been fixed only to find a couple of months later that it hadn't.

Most frustrating but despite everything I kept the faith because the car exudes character and when running as she should she is an absolute joy to look at, drive and own. Having run Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes in the past I can say that they too have their issues and that my next car will be another Jaguar.

And the Stag ? She is my other car - 37 years old, all original with a genuine 48,000 miles on the clock (30,000 in my ownership). She gets used frequently but only for relatively short trips on dry high days and holidays. I wonder how long we have to wait for our STR's to become acknowledged classics ?
