Default New to Forum, and Buying a 2004 S Type Tomorrow!

Hi All,
I've been looking at various used Jaguars and BMW's for the past two months, and found a 2004 S Type/3.0/Nav today at a very reputable Ford dealership.

It has 104,000 miles, but looks brand new. The engine runs strong, it shifts like butter on the highway and around town (extensive test drive), and the seats look as if they've never been sat on!

Price is $7,900 (down from $10,500), and that Blue Book for retail. The nav system works, and the speakers sound good.

I just can't figure out the Bluetooth. The dealer is supposed to find the owner's manual, but I'll have to wait for that.

The Nav system uses a DVD as far as I can tell, but haven't figured out how to get to the nav screen(???) The only issue is a slight ticking on the top end of the engine, but it's barely audible.

It's my understanding that the 3.0 is a Taurus engine of sorts, so that reassuring I suppose. The bottom looks ultra clean, and the exhaust looks new.

Anything that I should know that might make me change my mind before diving in? I don't have any experience with Jaguars, and reports are on the internet are a love/hate thing:
"Ran for 200,000 miles without a problem" or "Spent more time in the shop than in my driveway."

This particular Jag is running strong at the moment, and we let it idle for well over 20 minutes after two test drives. I just don't want to find out it needs a new tranny next month.... This is going to be my daily driver, but my daily drive is about 8 miles round trip.

Welcome to the forum FrankB2,

The main thing you need to know is service history is everything with these cars but from your description I don't think dynamite would stop you buying it!

Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type section for help, advice and information.

You might also want to visit the North East US Region section by following this link North East US - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

Try to get the dealership to include a 1k mile, 1 month warranty on the engine and tranny. Some dealerships will do so to get the deal done. There might be a small fee but even a small warranty will give you some peace of mind. If there is something immedietly wrong with the car it most likely will come up within the first 1k miles you put on it.
