Default New to forum looking to buy an xk8 project

Hi, new to the forum. Went and looked at an 1998 XK8 coupe yesterday. currently in the negotiating process.
the bad:
-paint fade on hood,roof,and trunk.
-check engine light: evap codes only.
-OCS light.
-all brakes rusty and corroded
-little scraps and dents on the fenders
-16" aftermarkets wheels and tires with flat spots.
-electric steering wheel not moving properly
-couldn't open the gas door
-been sitting for more then a year.

the good: runs and drives around a condo complex. he is asking $3000. i want to project. but will this be worth it? or should i pass and look for another? any thought?

Welcome to the forum wes.m258,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Did you read the codes yourself or did the vendor tell you this is why the MIL is on?

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also visit the Canada Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/canada-73/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

A much better idea. The 'to do' list on the 1998 could have turned into a money pit.

The to do list has already started:
-oil change, transmission service, brake flush, coolant flush.
-balance tires for shake.
-get rotors machined for pulsation
-replace knock sensor that is throwing codes.
-figure out clunk in the rear.
-E-test for Ontario

What I want:
Strut tower brace
large "Jaguar" Decal for hood.
bobble head jaguar for dash
fix convertible top closing switch.
wire in subs under seats.
