New to the Forum. Questions on Jaguars.
Hello,
I'm 62 and have been in love with Jaguars since I first saw the 63 XKE, in 1963! Currently I have Harley Road King as my "Toy". However, I have been thinking about selling the Road King and going with a Jaguar. Last year I put a grand total of 200 miles on my Harley. I cant get my wife on it anymore, since we rolled up on the scene of a motorcycle fatality before any emergency responders arrived. And, obviously , she wont be getting on it again after that. SO, I was thinking maybe its time to go to four wheels. I saw a number of XK8's which are in the range I want to spend with a reasonable amount of miles on them. I really like the XK8 style. I had also looked at the Maserati, but reliability is questionable, and the cost of repairs is more than I care to get involved in. As I read it, you get about 6,000 to 10,000 miles on a $5000 clutch. People have told me the Jag is better and I also like the style better. SO, what I was wondering is if anyone can tell me more about the XK8 and how they behave when it comes to being a reasonably reliable Sunday only car. If I get one, it wont be a daily driver, just a weekend drive to dinner or down to the beach car. I understand there will be maintenance, its a sports car it will cost more, and things do break. But, what I dont want is a car like a 67 Triumph I had. Fun to drive, but you drove it then fixed it, drove it then fixed it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome.
Weeeeell, I am biased a tad.
Any s/hand car will need "catchup" items doing.
That list will depend on the slackness of the PO, and the "expert" looking after it.
Mine all get MY major service, done by me, and that is EVERY fluid, out, and new back in.
ALL coolant hoses, and belt/s.
Brake hoses replaced.
Known issues, as with the V8, timing chain, water pump, thermostat, all taken care of.
Rubber bushes, mainly suspension, only last about 18 years, give or take, so renew, and repeat in 15 years.
Lots of more info in the related XK8 Tech Sections that will give you more ammo for bargaining.
Reliability, after MY major intervention, awesome. ALL mine have been, and still are, Daily Drives, and have never let me down.
Good luck.
