Default New here - and new to having NO Jags in our garage

Take 2 - I think I botched my first attempt at a post, but my old fingers have a way of confusing most keyboards these days. Not quite as difficult as extracting an XK starter motor from an early saloon! Ever wondered why most 60s 70s race saloons acquired non factory holes and coverplates in the front footwells?

So, greetings to everyone from our mountain paradise on Australia's east coast. I am hurting badly at the recent departure of our 1964/5 E-Type FHC being the last of a long line of Jags owned and loved. The love affair with this E-Type spanned well over 30 years; the Daimler Vanden Plas over 10 years, and we learned every feature of their lives before us back to delivery into Brysons, Melbourne. Now with 130,000 under the E-Type, she is off to new owners for her first total strip and rebuild to bring her back to top concourse condition.

I have always worked on my Jags, believing that every hour spent in research, preventative maintenance and even a major rebuild beats dealing with crises any time. I remember it took us 5 years of racing heartaches back in the early 70s to learn we had to double or even triple the factory spec valve clearances when using hi lift cams in super modded XK straight port heads. I remember our pioneering of Lynx Engineering XK manifolds, 6 port fuel injection and ram tube induction pipes. I also recall the frightening mess when a specially modified, highly polished, crack tested and balanced conrod exited my friend's 4.5litre XK special!

Maybe there is a place for a nostalgia thread? My wife once pushed me to write a book about our experiences and anecdotes involving the Jags, the race and hill climb specials, the furious and the funny. No thanks, but there must be thousands of good Jag stories that members here would love to share.

Compared to our seat-of-the-pants learning then, the breadth and depth of experience and friendly help offered here is brilliant. So, hats off to all involved in these forums. What a great resource!
