Default New Jag MK2 owner in Dallas TX

I thought I would quickly jump in and say hello. My name is Al and I live in Carrollton which is a suburb of Dallas, TX. Yesterday (much to my own amazement), I bought a very run down 1962 MKII Jaguar.

The car looks like it has sat up for years and years but is all there, and the external body is quite solid. The floors do have rust, but I can see that the frame rail seems to be solid.

It's a 62 3.8 automatic and I have no idea what color it was originally as all of the paint has been stripped off by the elements.

I have heard that these cars are expensive to restore, but this did not put me off because the cost of entry for me was low, and I'm quite sure that if it is not, then I can make my money back.

I'm not shy about doing my own body or mechanical work, I have a number of older Mercedes Benz that I run (12 of them) and I do all of the maintenance myself.

So here are my questions.

Are there any US parts suppliers that support these cars?
Can we get sheet metal and floor pans from them?
What about wood and interior items?
Is there a MKII specific forum?
Are there Jag MKII specific manuals that can be bought online?

Here are some pictures of my car. I would love to hear your opinion on it.

Welcome, I hope you can bring it back to its glory condition .
I take my hat off to you even though I don't wear one lol

For questions , Other Rides Forum can be used as we don't have MKII Forum

I would say you can contact www.motorcarsltd.com for parts as far as I know they sell some parts for classicals

Of course, you will be spending a wad of money to make it like new .
Enjoy your stay , those cars are one of my most fave Jags

I wish you luck as well, i can see huge potential in the car with a restoration. You sound like the perfect owner to bring it back from its current state. I hope I'm still alive when you finish to see the results (a little sarcasm)

Welcome to the forum AL. perhaps a 'bit o polish' here n there would be a good thing.

As stated above 'Other Jaguar Models' is a good place for you. And check the FAQ section.

12 Mercs, there has to be a decent story here

Thanks guys for the warm welcome. The Mercedes bug can also be quite addictive but i'm pretty excited about this car. I grew up in England and moved to the US about 10 years ago. You could not find a MK2 in the UK for anything less then the cost of a small house back then.

I'll see you guys in the other jag forum.

All the best

Al

Hi Alabbasi

I rebuilt a Mark 2 from a bare shell 1981-1987. Any questions you have, let me know, and I'll see how much I can remember. Whilst there may be US suppliers, there are quite a few UK suppliers how will ship to the US. Martin Robey specialise in body panels

http://www.martinrobey.com/home.cfm

David Manners also have quite a lot for Mark 2s, as does a company called SNG Barrett. Both companies ship to the US, and may have local agents.

The Mark 2 is a simple car, but restoration can be expensive as there is usually so much to do. Interiors cost a lot, but on the plus side, there are generally no plastic mouldings, it is all stuff "off the role" combined with traditional trimming techniques.

Alabbasi I also live in Carrollton. I was looking for a project car to play with and a few weeks ago I saw a beautiful white MK 2 at Indian Creek golf course and fell in love with that car, it was stunning to say the least. I have been searching the internet for local sources in TX to find an MK 2 and came across this forum. I'd like to see your car collection and ask if you can direct me to local resources. Thank you and Merry Christmas. John Stewart

Stewart

I ended up selling that car a couple of years ago to a fellow overseas before I did anything to it. Now the only Jaguar I own is a 75 XJ12C.

Shoot me a PM and let me know what kind of resources you're looking for and I'd be glad to help.

Regards

Al
