Default New jag owner

I just yesterday got my first cat, a neglected 1987 xj-s, it has the factory V12 in it still. Its got some issues for sure, a few mechanical ones, lots of interior cosmetic ones, but I am confident with a little time and probably a lot of help from knowledgeable folks here that I will bring it back to life.

At the moment my main concerns with it are the idle - its way low and dies every time whether warmed up or not. Also its running a bit rich. The brakes are barely functional - though I believe this to be a result of the previous owner somehow running it out of brake fluid. Not even sure how that happens - might be a leak, might be a failed attempt at bleeding the system at some point. I dont know yet but it should be easy enough to figure out. Also - it wont go in reverse. I already made a post about that so we'll see where that leads me.

After allll that gets sorted out I get the super fun task of replacing - all - the leather on the inside. Not sure how much a pain that will be, but im sure when its all said and done that it'll be a great little car. Im pretty excited to finally have one. The only other thing I need to figure out is why my radio says code - im assuming its a security measure of some sort.

Welcome to the forums Sardonicus,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Do a Google search for "Kirby Palm's Experience in a book". It's a free PDF download and is the definitive guide to XJS/XJ-S repair, maintenance, and modification..

Already downloaded and read it a couple times. It has been very helpful in sorting out some odds and ends.
