New Jag owner from Singapore
Hi all,
This is Bannon. I am a new owner of a X-Type 2.0 V6 SE, residing in Singapore. It is Midnight and comes with 16" Antares alloys, cruise control, digital climate control, trip computer, F/R foglights, Xenons and those cute headlight washers.
Have been driving the car for 3 weeks now. Pretty pleased with the car till now, the comfort, the handling, the body shell design.
Some problems like misaligned bumper and rear boot plastic trim, misaligned steering wheel and creaking sound emitting from gearbox stick console during braking were quickly resolved by the dealer.
Though there doesn't seem to be X-Type 2.0 V6 model in US, I will still enjoy being part of this forum.
cheers,
Bannon

RE: New Jag owner from Singapore
Hi Racerx82,
Thank you very much for your welcome.
Yeah I figured the 2.0 model will not be offered in the states....too underpowered (157hp, 200nm, dragging 1500kg kerb weight) for a big country like US. My 2.0 comes with the AJ20 V6 engine which is a 2099cc engine developed from the Ford Mondeo's 2.0 V6 block. And 2.0s are only FWD, no AWD to save weight. But for a tiny country like Singapore, any 2 litre car is more than good enuf. (As the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir, said famously, a Ferrari driver will drive the car into the sea the moment he shifts into 3rd gear). Also our road tax structure, based on engine capacity, forces S'poreans to get cars with big bodies and small engines.
Due to S'pore's high tax on cars (130% tax and on top of this, you have to bid and pay for the right to buy a car! This is called Certificate of Entitlement COE), I paid US$82,000 for my 2.0 SE, the 2.5 SE costs US$20,000 more. Prices used to be even higher when the COE was higher. My previous car was the Honda Civic SiR II (170ps) which I paid almost US$87,500 in 1997.
Hence to me, US is like motoring heaven with really cheap cars and long wide roads : ) Really looking forward to my trip to the Land of the Free next time!
cheers,
Bannon
