Hi, My name is Clarke. Brisbane ,Australia.
I'm a first time Jag owner, had other classic cars before and plenty of motorcycles.
I do all my own mechanical work, unless I get in too deep and have to have said vehicle towed to garage. I usually just nut it out with my retired mechanic friend.
Had the Jag a week, replaced battery, starter motor, vacuum modulator on transmission, fitted twin electric thermo fans,
accessory socket ,,played with dash to get gaugs-lights working.
Other than that it's all pretty good I think.
Taking it on family road trip this week for a few days driving in the hills.

regards, Clarke

Welcome to the forum Clarke,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Your Series I looks much better in 2014 than mine did back in 1976! The UK weather killed them very quickly.

I can see you've already found where I moved your kickdown question.

Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the main XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the Australia / New Zealand Region forum by following this link Australia / New Zealand - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your part of the World.

Enjoy the forums.

Hi all, Thanks for the welcome. The xj6 seems to be fairly common in Australia.
Had plenty to look at once I decided I was having one,not so easy to find a good one though,a lot of poeple trying to offload rubbish for top dollar. Picked this one for a bargain + on-road costs, owes me $3100. The pics are of the good side/end of car, back end has paint peeling and so doe's one side, was parked for years with the the boot facing north(all day sun at the bottom of the world) sticking out of car port.
Seems to be plenty of parts available, new and used so far.

Clarke,

We have several Australian members with good XJ6 Series I cars whereas they are now very rare in the UK where the only good ones have had total restoration at massive cost. The Australian climate is clearly very kind to the bodywork although the upholstery seems to suffer with the sun.

I had a 1972 model in 1974 and within two years the tops of the front wings above the headlamps, the bottom edges next to the sills and the sills themselves were rusted through. The bottom front edge of the bonnet was starting to go, the rear lower quarter panel and bottom of the fuel tanks were also seriously rusted.

The complete lack of factory anti-rust treatment coupled with massive use of road salt during Winter made this typical for UK owners and very few Series I's lasted into the 1980's here. The same car in Australia is usually the complete opposite with little or no rust even after forty years!

Enjoy your Series I. It was a sensation when introduced and still is one of the all-time great cars.

Graham
