Hello, I just purchased a 1999 XJ8 and got her home and the check engine light has turned on. It has not been driven much in the last year (per previous owner) may that have something to do with it? No power loss or anything out of the ordinary with gauges or driving of car.

You need to ask your question in the XJ8 section for your year.

Probably something simple, that needs to be cleaned.

Give as much detail as you can, to give the guys something to go on.

 

Welcome to the forum my1999. Sorry tp hear that on the first drive she acted up. You should have the codes read then jump into the XJ8 section as Richard pointed out.

Ok this may be the first of many embarrassing moments for me here.... The gas cap was not on tight enough. Brought here in and code said tighten gas cap DUMMY!!!
