My gf's grandparents gave this to us yesterday. They had not been using it the last couple years but have owned it since 77. Very solid shape though not inspected since 2015.
I'm an engineer by trade and a garage mechanic. Had a 91 Diablo that I did engine out services on when I had it.
This will be my gf's weekend cruiser as I have enough toys. The main things I'd like to do are euro bumpers (open to suggestions on where to source), redo the interior, and update brakes. The brakes feel like you must mash to the floor to stop. Not sure if the master cyl is weak or what. Couple of emblems I'd like to replace too but otherwise very good shape for its age.
Looking forward to learning more about these.

Welcome.
Nice gift.
The people in teh XJ Series 1 2 3 section will hav ethe answers.
That master cylinder is #1 on my list, along with stale brake fluid, and then caliper seals as a last area.

Hello, Chip,
What a Gift!! Series 2, in my opinion, is the Most beautiful Jaguar ever to come out of Coventry. And it looks BLACK from here ( I Luv BLACK cars!), but I've been mistaken about that before.
I went through the hard-to-apply brakes thing when I first got my Series II; replacing both master and booster fixed it right up.
I'll look for you over in our playpen, here:
