New member first Jaguar, off to bad start
Hello fellow cat owners,
Purchased a 2011 XJ base 39K miles on Hagerty auction site unseen and was delivered from PA to NH last week.
First morning on first drive low battery start engine. Read 12.3 volts. Two miles into first drive check engine; scan
says MAP sensor with many lost communications, gear shift, vehicle dynamics, gsm, invalid data from tcm, ecm/pcm.
Praying these codes relate to a problem battery.
Charged the battery to full, 12.94 volts in the evening. Next AM voltage down to 12.31. Now figure whether there is a draw
on the battery or battery cannot maintain full charge. Unfortunate as car has solid history, very clean, engine sounds great.

Greetings Dave and welcome to JF.
Intro done and ordinarily we would advise that you now post your fault in the sub-forum for your specific car/model. However, your Jag is exhibiting the well known malady of a sick battery . . . charges well then dying off-charge by morning, Any start with B+ below 12.6V invites precisely the array and sequence of hiccups that your car is displaying. Your precise battery voltage readings are the first step.
Now, suggest you repeat but this time, after having first removed one of the battery leads (which one matters not). Measure when fully charged (say 12.9V). remove charger and measure again next morning. If again, battery voltage has dropped to 12,3V, you have a dying battery as there is no power source to allow quiescent current drain
Final check is to take battery to your local supplier and have it checked for Cold Cranking Amperage (CCA test). This is the unambiguous test to assess if the remaining battery capacity is sufficient or needs replacement. Good news is that most battery suppliers are happy to perform this test as a no charge courtesy . . . offset by an expectation they supply you with replacement battery if needed.
Cheers and best wishes,

Hello, Dave,
Congratulations on your First Jaguar! I'm sorry you already have battery problems.
Newish cars are SO picky about batteries, it's just Stupid! And modern batteries are SO picky about holding a charge when not in use for 15 minutes. (Only a slight exaggeration)
However, New Car, New Battery as other suggest will do Wonders for your relationship with this Jag.
