Any improvement in reliability between 2005 and 2007?

Here's my choices -
2005, 53k miles, clean, $10,000
2007, 20k miles, clean, $13500

From a value standpoint, I figure it's a toss up since the price difference pretty much compensates for the higher mileage of the second one. Agree?

Buying this for my wife, so I place reliability as high priority.

Yes, I know a Lexus would be more reliable, but dang, these cars offer
a lot of luxury at these prices in the used market, and my wife loves the style.
Was considering a couple of X types, but from what I read the S may be more reliable due to the drivetrain, and offer more room.

Any other insights from you Jag enthusiasts would be most appreciated. I plan to buy one of these tomorrow.
Thanks!

Also meant to ask ...
Does Ford own Jag now? Are these cars more reliable since Ford took over?
Thanks again!!!

Welcome to the forum Skewzme,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Ford sold Jaguar to Tata in 2008 so both vehicles you are considering were built whilst Ford owned the company. How the PO has treated the vehicle counts for a lot more than who owned the company!

Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Mid Atlantic Region forum by following this link USA Mid Atlantic - MD VA DC DE WV - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Enjoy the forums.

No Ford and been and gone. They are now owned by Tata who have been great in allowing the company do what they do best. Design and create Jags!

If it's a value toss-up, the main driver ought to choose, no?

I would buy the low mileage. 20k for a 2007 model is nothing anyway, but I would check the service book just to ensure that those are original miles.

that was my gut feeling too, but someone put a deposit on it before I reacted. Found another 2007 with 26k miles for $13500 and immediately put down a deposit. Car is in showroom condition. The 52k mile car, upon closet inspection, had some wear on the drivers seat that I wasn't happy about. Thanks for all the feedback

As a side note, I guess there are a lot of these out there for sale? Didn't take me long to find another one with similar mileage and in the same price range.
